It has emerged from some media reports that Arsene Wenger is tracking Barcelona’s teenage sensation Bojan Krkic for a summer move to the Emirates stadium. The youngster is highly rated in both Spain and Europe and many of the continent’s elite clubs are jostling to sign the Spanish international. Although Krkic rarely featured for Barca this season, the eighteen year old is seen by many as a rare talent who can be an ideal replacement for the likes of Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry in the near future at the Camp Nou. With one cap already for Spain, young Krkic is a much sought after entity among many of the finest clubs.
He is the sort of player that can be a useful addition to Arsene Wenger’s team yet one feels that the Frenchman would be acquiring another youngster rather than going for an experienced pair of legs in the summer. Arsenal’s summer signings could heavily depend on the team’s qualification for next season’s Champions League. If the Gunners fail to get into the most glamorous continental competition, many of the top players would be apprehensive about joining the North London side and it remains to be seen what transfer policies Arsene Wenger applies to take the club forward. As uncertainties surround the future of Arsene Wenger at the club, the summer seems to be very far off. Yet Bojan Krkic remains a long term target for the club for the 2009/2010 season.
Although Krkic has not played too many matches this season for Barcelona, coach Pep Guardiola has preferred to use him for Copa Del Rey matches and as a late replacement for tired first choice strikers during league clashes. The son to a Serbian father and a Spanish mother, Krkic has expressed his happiness at the Catalan club and the club has shown its desire to stick with the boy by providing a 71 million pound buy-out clause to ward off potential suitors.
Tottenham and Manchester City are the potential frontrunners behind Arsenal to lure Krkic to the lucrative football fields of the English Premier League. Arsene Wenger is a master of attracting young talented footballers to North London and given the legendary manager’s patience in going for a protractive transfer of Andrei Arshavin, Bojan Krkic could be in for one if Mr.Wenger decides to sign the young Spaniard at all costs next season. The question then could well be whether there is enough finance at the club to lure such a priceless talent that Krkic is.
One thing that could work in favour of Arsenal is the fact that despite Krkic admitting being happy at the Nou Camp, the teenager would want to get as many first team appearances as possible given 2010 being the world cup year. Barca’s reluctance to give young Bojan Krkic as full run for the season could ultimately force him to leave Catalunya as it is a dream for every footballer to participate in the world cup and Spanish coach Vicente Del Bosque would only be interested in match fit players to prepare for South Africa.
